The Best Happy Hour In Town

The Cosmopolitan, located in the Hotel Columbia across from the Gondola, is a well-established restaurant that also happens to have a killer happy hour special. Be warned: during ski season, folks will stand in line well in advance of the 5 p.m. hour to claim a coveted seat at the bar or a high top table. Those lucky enough to score a seat have the opportunity to drink half-priced Cosmopolitans and house wines and eat a selection of sushi and other appetizers also for 50% off from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. There's always a jovial crowd, but like Cinderella, it's over before you know it.

The dining room is open from 5 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Chef and owner Chad Scothorn has been at this gig for a bit and demands great service from his servers. The first item to arrive at the table is a loaf of lightly salted bread with a crunchy crust and airy interior. Spread some butter on and prepare for a heavenly bite. There are daily specials and regular menu entrees always include fish, game, pork, and beef. Try the signature lobster corn dogs to start (sounds ridiculous tastes delicious). In the mood for a salad? Try the chopped salad - is it certainly not your typical chopped salad. Presented on the plate are strips of ingredients including avocado, tomato, arugula, house smoked salmon, nut & fruit medley, egg, Israeli couscous and buttermilk dressing. Feel free to mix it up to the degree you desire.

If you aren't stuffed, don't leave without ordering dessert. Since opening, one item trumps the rest - coffee & donuts. The Cosmopolitan specializes in housemade warm beignets. Because they're made to order, make sure to allow 15-20 minutes for preparation. Other choices are creme brulee (both classic vanilla bean and a gluten-free coconut version), blueberry pie and chocolate mousse cake.
