River Club Our Favorite Places

The Best Places Around

Here are some of our favorite 4x4 trails in the immediate Telluride area:

  • Last Dollar Road - This is a great pass for anyone looking for a casual 4x4 route! This old sheepherding route provides unobstructed views of Mr. Wilson and the Sneffels mountain range on a fairly easy drive. 4x4 vehicles are recommended.
  • Ophir Pass - Located just south of Telluride in the town of Ophir, this moderate pass is great for beginner drivers looking to up their game. Most of the drive is easy, but it does have a shelf area that can be tricky to navigate with two cars. It's one of the quickest ways to get from Telluride to Silverton!
  • Imogene Pass - This amazing drive leaves straight from the town of Telluride and connects to Ouray! 4WD vehicles can drive up Tomboy Road to Imogene Pass, a 13,114-foot pass that is definitely for more experienced drivers.
  • Black Bear Pass - This infamous pass is known for being one of the most difficult Jeep trails in Colorado. Located on the east end of the valley, this one-way drive begins at Red Mountain Pass and descends past Bridal Veil Falls into the town of Telluride. If you dare to do this pass, you'll remember it forever!
  • Other local passes worth checking out: Alta Lakes (and ghost town), Engineer Pass, Ophir Pass and Cinnamon Pass
