About Telluride

Telluride is the most populous town in San Miguel County, located in the southwestern region of Colorado. The town is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains. The first gold mining claim was made in the mountains above Telluride in1875 and early settlement of the Town followed.

Telluride is a highly coveted vacation spot and offers some of the most prime real estate in the state of Colorado.

The historic culture lives on and is beautifully maintained. Coupled with phenomenal outdoor adventures, fine cuisine and entertainment, and an impeccable art scene, this quaint mountain town is truly exceptional.

    The Town itself was founded in 1878. Telluride was named after valuable ore compounds of the chemical element, tellurium. The area’s mines were rich in zinc, lead, copper, and silver. Mining was Telluride’s only industry until the ski resort opened in 1972. The first ski lift was installed by Telluride Ski Resort founder Joseph T. Zoline, who purchased the land and began to craft the slopes with his Telluride-native partner, Bill Mahoney Sr.
